What happens at your visit
Every visit starts with a conversation. We review your health history and medications, and ask whether anything has been bothering you.
Your dental exam. Dr. Al Rezk checks your teeth, gums, bite and existing fillings or crowns. He looks for signs of decay, cracks, gum disease and wear from grinding. We also offer oral cancer screenings, because finding changes early matters.
X-rays when you need them. X-rays show what cannot be seen by looking, such as decay between teeth or problems below the gumline. How often you need them depends on your individual needs and history.
Your professional cleaning. Even with great brushing and flossing, plaque can harden into tartar that a toothbrush cannot remove. During your cleaning, we gently remove plaque and tartar, clean along the gumline and polish your teeth so they feel smooth and fresh.
Your plan and tips. Before you leave, we explain what we found in plain language. If something needs attention, we talk about your options. There is never pressure to decide on the spot.
Healthy gums matter
Gum disease often starts quietly, with mild bleeding when you brush or floss. Left alone, it can lead to receding gums and even tooth loss. If we see signs of gum disease, we may recommend a deeper cleaning, called scaling and root planing, or more frequent visits to help get your gums back on track.
Nervous about your checkup?
If it has been a while since your last visit, please do not let embarrassment keep you away. We are here to help, not to judge. For patients who feel anxious, ask about our sedation options.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How often should I have a cleaning and exam?
Many people do well with a checkup about every six months. If you have gum disease, a history of frequent cavities or other health concerns, Dr. Al Rezk may suggest coming in more often.
Do I need X-rays at every visit?
Not necessarily. How often you need X-rays depends on your age, dental history and risk for problems. Dr. Al Rezk is happy to explain why X-rays are recommended for you.
Does a dental cleaning hurt?
Most people find a routine cleaning comfortable. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, let us know and we can go more slowly or talk about ways to keep you comfortable.
What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?
A regular cleaning focuses on the teeth and along the gumline. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) reaches below the gumline to remove tartar and bacteria when gum disease is present.
Is it time for your next checkup?
