Teeth Whitening in Scottsdale, AZ

Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and simply getting older can all leave teeth looking yellow or dull. Professional whitening starts with making sure your teeth and gums are healthy.

Why choose professional whitening?

Store-bought whitening products can help some people, but they are one-size-fits-all. With professional whitening, Dr. Feras Al Rezk checks your teeth first and recommends an approach that fits your situation.

That exam matters. Cavities, worn fillings or gum problems should be treated before whitening, since whitening can make sensitive teeth feel worse. We will also let you know ahead of time about anything that could affect your results.

What whitening can and cannot do

Whitening works on natural tooth enamel. It is usually most effective on yellowish stains from food, drinks and age. Some stains, such as grayish discoloration from certain medications or from an injury to a tooth, may not respond as well.

Whitening does not change the color of crowns, fillings, bonding or veneers. If you have dental work on your front teeth, it may not match your newly whitened teeth, and we will talk about that before you begin. Every smile responds differently, so we cannot promise a specific shade.

Your whitening options

Ask us which whitening option fits your smile. After your exam, Dr. Al Rezk will talk with you about your goals, your schedule and any sensitivity concerns, and help you choose an approach that makes sense for you.

Is whitening comfortable?

Some people notice temporary tooth sensitivity or mild gum irritation during or shortly after whitening. This usually fades within a few days. If you already have sensitive teeth, let us know so we can adjust your plan. If you are pregnant or nursing, we generally recommend waiting on whitening.

Keeping your smile bright

  • Rinse with water after coffee, tea or red wine
  • Avoid tobacco
  • Brush twice a day and floss daily
  • Keep up with your regular cleanings and exams

If whitening is not the right fit, other options such as bonding, veneers or crowns may help with stains, chips or uneven teeth. See our before and after gallery for smile examples.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How white will my teeth get?

It depends on your natural tooth color and the type of staining. Results vary from person to person, and we will give you an honest idea of what to expect after your exam.

Is professional whitening safe?

When your teeth and gums are healthy and whitening is done under a dentist's guidance, it is considered a safe cosmetic treatment. The most common side effect is temporary sensitivity.

How long do whitening results last?

Results can last a long time, but they fade gradually, especially with coffee, tea, red wine or tobacco. Occasional touch-ups can help keep your smile bright.

Will whitening work on my crowns or fillings?

No. Whitening only lightens natural teeth. If you have crowns, fillings or veneers in your smile line, we will talk about how to keep everything looking even.
